Michel Fabrizio Hoping for a Return to WorldSBK

The Italian prepares for a future challenge

Michel Fabrizio has spent the last two seasons managing the MF84 Pluston Althea Moto3 team in the Italian Championship, but his need for speed remains and he is ready for a new challenge. His time spent away from the WorldSBK paddock has ignited a desire within him to make a world championship comeback.

Before his WorldSBK dreams can become a reality, Fabrizio is preparing for a preliminary return to the tarmac as he is set to compete in the final round of the CIV Championship at Mugello on the 9th of October with the Genesio Bevilacqua run Althea BMW Team.

“I will participate as a wildcard in the last round of the CIV but the decision has only been recent,” states Fabrizio. “The race will act as a kind of training, we have no expectations. I’ve only ridden the BMW a little but honestly I feel good with it.”

The Italian rider has stayed busy during his break from world championship racing, managing his team and gaining further experience. Last year the 32 year olds team won the Italian Speed Championship. His team’s achievement fuelled his consideration for a full time racing comeback.

“I’ve been training to get in good shape and prepare for what WorldSBK races demand,” said Fabrizio. “Nothing is set in stone. Some think this race in Mugello is my return, but a return must be done well and that’s what Genesio is helping me with at the moment. We'll see how it goes in Mugello, and if all goes well, then we will decide if a return to Superbike is possible. "

Michel Fabrizio raced in WorldSBK from 2006 to 2013 and after nearly three years away from the competition, he knows it will be hard work to return and be competitive straight away. Commenting on the possibility of returning, he says, "I’ve always wanted to return. Now we are still evaluating it, step by step. In my mind I am focussed and if I do return, it won’t be as the ‘return of Michel Fabrizio’ like other times, it will be more like a first time.”
